embroidery news from Iviva Olenick

Dear friends,

This September, I had the pleasure of participating in a one-night exhibit, "Sleeping with Strangers," sponsored by Salon Ciel. I exhibited embroideries from my Were I So Besotted series alongside the black and white photographs of Robert Gerhardt. While the show was fleeting, the experience was recorded in a video, where you can see and hear Robert and I talk about our work: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IGEoPOtZqHk.

You can also read a review of "Sleeping with Strangers" here: http://gallerycrawl.typepad.com/gallery_crawl/2010/10/recent-fall-shows-in-brief.html. Thanks to James Kao for writing this article, and Salon Ciel for hosting the exhibit.

For those of you in the New York area, my latest installment of the Embroidered Art Journal class at Pratt CCPS in Manhattan is coming up very soon. The Embroidered Art Journal, PMDA-104-02, runs for 5 weeks on Friday evenings from 6:30-9:30 - November 5 - December 10th. $195/ 15 hours of workshop/studio time. This class is perfect for absolute beginners and more experienced embroiderers. With my guidance and input, each student crafts an art book incorporating embroidery and additional media of his/her choice. You can sign up via Pratt's web site, http://my.pratt.edu, or by calling 212-647-7199. I hope to see some of you there! Please feel free to share this information with friends.

Finally, if you live in Brooklyn, you can see my embroidered art work at Muriel Guepin Gallery on Bergen Street near Smith Street, steps away from the F/G to Bergen Street. The address is 47 Bergen Street, and the gallery sits beside the Invisible Dog, an event, performance, and exhibition space.

Thanks to all of you for your ongoing interest in my work.

with love,

Iviva
