Make a Sock Animal

Join us on Saturday May 1st from 10:30am to 12:30pm and let Cal Patch teach you how to turn a pair of socks into an adorable new friend.

Use a pair of socks to make a sweet stuffed dog (or other critter) with just a few snips and a little hand sewing. Customize with some button eyes and a few stitches of embroidery, and you’ll want to make a whole menagerie!

You bring the socks, we’ll provide everything else.
(Children’s socks recommended.)
Cost: $25 + $5 materials fee

A 50% deposit is required to hold your place in a class. Cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the class in order to receive store credit for your deposit. To reserve a spot, drop by the shop or give us a call at 845-481-0149 during store hours.

SquirrelBow

Need some Squirrel Contest inspiration? We made this flirty girl with Ecological Woolfrom Cascade. We were attracted to the 100% Peruvian Highland wool because of its natural, chemical-free and un-dyed colors. This soft but durable yarn has beautiful volume and stitch definition. For an all-wool yarn this is so fluffy and soft--perfect for knitting nature.

Purelife

Rowan's PureLife Organic Wool Naturally Dyedis grown in an environmentally and socially responsible way from sheep grazed on land free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers. It is dyed using natural sustainable plant dyes. British Sheep Breeds Undyedis shorn and blended from four classic British sheep breeds, then spun into five beautiful un-dyed shades with the natural lanolin content maintained. Two more prefect, natural yarn choices.

embroidered journal class @ pratt

wow! this embroidered journaling class looks amazing... here's what iviva has to say about it:

I am excited about my imminent 5-week embroidery workshop at Pratt, The Embroidered Art Journal. I hope some of you will join me, or pass the word on to friends who may be looking for a creative way to spend Wednesdays in April and May. Here are the details:

The Embroidered Art Journal, PMDA-104
5 Wednesdays at Pratt Center for Continuing and Professional Studies
144 West 14th Street, near 7th Avenue
April 21st - May 19th, 6:30-9:30pm

Registration:
212-647-7199

After mastering a dozen stitches for decorative and practical use, we will explore a range of methods for interpreting photographs as embroideries, drawing with thread, and transferring images and text onto fabric.

The goal is for each student to embark on a personal project that incorporates embroidery and narrative. Mixed media projects are encouraged.

Previous students have worked on a wide range of pursuits: one is in the process of making a book for her soon-to-be grandchild, another did preparatory work for exhibition pieces for a show. Students experimented with non-traditional materials, like sewing on bubble wrap and other forms of packaging. Some created sculptural "landscapes" by manipulating fabric and thread. Others reinterpreted their own drawings and illustrations using fabric and thread.

The possibilities for this class are endless...

Tuition is $195 for 5 weeks (15 hours of class time). Supplies are minimal - I provide as much as possible, which you can supplement with materials of your choice.

Also coming up this spring is the Affordable Art Fair, May 6-9th...More details to come!

With very best wishes,
Iviva Olenick
