news from the {NewNew}

Fall in Love with Handmade Goodness
Celebrate the bounty of Autumn with some fabulous events during the month of October.
NYCraft at Madison Square Market Debut

NYCraft, a collective of seven distinguished artists from The {NewNew}, is participating in the inaugural season of the Madison Square Mark’t at Madison Square Park.

From October 9 through November 1, NYCraft will join more than 60 artists, designers and chefs for a month-long artisan market at historic Madison Square Park. The participants have been specifically selected and curated to offer shoppers the best from independent New York designers and chefs.

“We are excited to be a part of this select showcase of local artists, designers, and chefs during this gorgeous time of the year,” said Kimm Alfonso, team leader, and participating NYCraft designer. “Madison Square Park, the crisp fall weather, pumpkins for the kids, and the best of New York designers makes for a great recipe!”

The Mark’t hours will be 11am-8pm, seven days a week.

Visitors to the NYCraft booth will find Alexandra Ferguson pillows, KimmChi t-shirts, Meegün bags, ceramics by Lorrie Veasey, paper goods by Pretty Stationery for Beautiful Souls, and jewelry by Metalicious and Wabisabi Brooklyn.

Speaking of Crafts and Chelsea

On October 17, The {NewNew} sponsors Crafts in Chelsea, a fall delight of handmade shopping with free food, games and a petting zoo for the kids over at P.S. 11. Shop for Pulp Sushi jewelry, Groundsel handbags, Virginia Kraijevic artwork and Better Than Jam apparel. Click here for a full list of participating vendors, and directions to the school.

Crafts in Chelsea will run from 10am-5pm.

Gotham Returns to Beantown

Not only do New York and Boston share a passion for baseball, the cities share a common appreciation for artisanal goods. The {NewNew} takes another road trip up to Boston's ultra-hip Sowa Openmarket on October 25 after a well-received first run back in August.
The market will be hosting its 6th Annual Vendor/Customer Halloween Costume Contest, so be sure to look for the blue banners admist all the ghosts and goblins.

Sowa Open Market is open from 10am-4pm.

In the midst of all this activity, we're planning our largest and most spectacular Handmade Cavalcade yet, so mark your calendar for Saturday, December 5, 2009. Details to come shortly, and sign up for announcements if you haven't already done so!
